Here, we’ll round up our top 10 picks from this impressive group. The companies we’ll briefly talk about are leaders or emerging players in their niches and sectors. Megastar Construction Company

Megastar is a civil engineering and construction company headquartered in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, with offices across the Niger Delta region. Incorporated in 1988, it has completed numerous projects, including commercial, institutional, industrial, residential, and government-held structures. The company currently employs over a thousand workers and serves a large and continuously expanding clientele in the private and public sectors.

Asset and Resource Management Holding Company (ARM)

ARM is a financial services provider which offers pensions, trusteeship, life insurance, private equity, mutual funds, and other financial products. It has its head office in Lagos, and branches in other parts of the country. Starting out as an asset management firm in 1994, it expanded its roster of services over the years. ARM also has a diverse clientele, ranging from self-employed persons to High Net-Worth Individuals and corporate entities.

BAGCO

BAGCO is one of Nigeria’s most recognizable brands. It’s a packaging solutions provider with a long history, stretching back to its founding in 1972. BAGCO bags are used to store grains, flour, sugar, livestock feed, and cement. It makes shopping bags and travel bags as well. These bags are manufactured in the company’s facilities in Lagos and Kano and distributed all over the country.

Chemiron

Chemiron is a top indigenous producer and supplier of medical supplements, including multivitamins, blood capsules, and energy boosters. Founded in 1987 as Chemech Laboratories, it began manufacturing medicines at a facility in Ikeja, Lagos. In 2019, it took the name Chemiron and moved to its present manufacturing site in Agbara, Ogun State.

Coronation Merchant Bank

A leading investment bank in the West African sub-region, Coronation Merchant Bank is a familiar and widely respected brand in finance. It provides such services as wealth management, asset management, mutual funds, securities, trusteeship, and access to global markets. It is headquartered in Lagos and has a physical presence in Abuja.

Meristem Securities

Meristem Securities is a financial services conglomerate which is active in the stock broking, asset management, and financial advisory spaces. It was founded in 2003 as Great Africa Securities Limited and took its present name two years later. The organization serves a variety of clients, including individuals, SMEs and large corporations (as well as multinational entities and Nigerians in the diaspora).

Parresia Publishers

This is a new-generation publisher operating out of Lagos. It publishes fiction and creative non-fiction targeted primarily at a Nigerian readership. Parresia receives, screens, and accepts manuscripts from some of the country’s most promising literary talents. It currently has four imprints—Regium, Origami, Omode Meta, and Cordite –each of which caters to a unique audience.

Ouida Books

Founded in 2016 by acclaimed author Lola Shoneyin, Ouida Books is tapping into the global demand for quality African storytelling. It publishes titles from top Nigerian authors; recognizable figures whose works have been published by Ouida include Nnedi Okorafor, Helon Habila, Hadiza El-Rufai, Odafe Atogun, and E.C. Osondu. The company also runs ‘One Read’, a virtual book club that gives its subscribers access to a collection of books written by African authors.

Kings Court Realtors

Established in the year 2000, Kings Court Realtors is one of the larger real estate firms in Nigeria. It develops, manages, leases, and sells property of various types in some of Nigeria’s major cities (Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt). It also finances the purchase of property on its clients’ behalf, manages facilities, and provides real estate valuation services.

Inlaks

Founded in 1982, Inlaks has evolved from its early status as a lower-tier player in Nigeria’s IT space to a leader in the industry across West Africa. It provides core banking, data centre infrastructure management, enterprise, and e-payment solutions to its clients in multiple sectors. Those clients include the CBN, 18 other banks within Nigeria, and financial institutions in six West African countries. It is also present in Kenya, with an office in Nairobi.
