Value is defined as the prize and worth of a person, animal, place, or thing. Sounds funny right? But the truth of the matter is not everything has the same value. That’s the truth. Value is an indicator of preciousness attached to someone or something. It defines the quality, determines the quality of the influence or impact and could also increase or decrease over time.

For the sake of this item, value connotes superior quality that sets it apart from all others. In this article, I point out five ways to become a person of value.
  • Build Self-Worth

Building your self-worth is the first step to becoming a person of value. It’s about analyzing yourself in terms of who you are and what you want. It’s no wonder that Dr. Myles Munroe stated that a whole person is a component of three things: self-concept, self-esteem, and self-worth. Esteem is the fruit of the other two. Self-concept is the starting point, and self-esteem is the verb. To become a person of value, how you perceive yourself matters a lot. When you look in the mirror, do you like what you see? This is the basis of all matters in your life. Do you have a set of values that you hold dear? What are those things that matter to you? Is it family, love, courage, compassion, trustworthiness, integrity, faith, etc.? Does this matter to you? Make a list of what matters to you and hide it in your heart; let it be your compass and the light that defines your choices and association.
  • Build A Personal Brand

Branding is how you want the world to perceive you. Your brand is how they see you, which consists of their honest opinions, views, and perceptions about you. The beauty of personal branding is that you can control what people think of you. You believe what they should about you.

Once your name comes up, what comes to people’s minds? What comes to mind is your brand. Therefore, let the world know you for one thing. For example, when someone hears the name Tony Robbins, what comes to mind is not unreasonable: a motivational speaker.
  • Grow Into Competence

No one starts out perfect or competent. The journey to becoming a person of value begins with incompetence; then it becomes competence before it becomes excellence. Generally, nobody develops competence overnight, excellence is built over time. Therefore, if you want to be a person of value, you must constantly build your brand and hone your skills. The truth is that the path of excellence is continuous. When you do good work, ask people to keep referring you. Compare testimonials over time to see if you’re improving.
  • Blow Your Trumpet

Nobody grows in isolation. Go out to the marketplace and tell people what you do. Use all available platforms, both on social media channels and social gatherings.

Let people know the value you produce and give, which of course you do in exchange for money. Look for people who have problems that your product/service can solve. Never be modest about the value you provide.
  • Remain Focused On Excellence

Don’t compromise your pursuit of excellence if you want to be a person of value. You must be given to consistent self-development and self-growth. Don’t be unequally yoked with those who despise excellence and its pursuit. Investing in you will bring dividends tomorrow.
