The fun of Twitter has always been the cleverness of expressing yourself with just 140 characters. It’s always amazing when you look at how creative Twitter users have been over the years; how they’ve taught themselves to think only within 140 characters. We can probably trace the proliferation of shorthand texts (LOL, TTYL, IMO, TBH, and so on) to the ingenuity of Twitter users. 😀 Last year, Twitter brought some changes to the 140-character limit by excluding media attachments, quoted tweets, and usernames from the tweet count. And this year, Twitter has finally chosen to double the tweet count from 140 to 280 characters. According to a recent blog post from the microblogging site, they want every person around the world to easily express themselves on Twitter. This means Twitter users no longer need to go through the hassle of editing their tweet down or even removing words that convey a certain important meaning or emotion from their tweet. However, this update is not in any way an attempt by Twitter to turn their precious social network into a sort of Facebook Frankenstein monster where people make unbearably long updates. Twitter thrives on the brevity of its updates, and 280 characters I believe won’t take that away. The update will be made available to everyone soon enough.
