With the recent trend in fuel shortage and the Nigerian government’s prediction on the scarcity persisting for as long as two months, here are top tips for living stress-free and saving more.

  1. Walk. Instead of driving to nearby places, this reason should be a worthwhile one to get you to exercise and to know your neighbourhood. By the time you’re done with walking, your blood vessels dilate, lowering your blood pressure and release hormones that make you feel good, thereby easing off tension.
  2. Park to network. Park your car and get on a bus, taxi or bike to meet and network with new people. This offers you an opportunity to learn new ideas, get different perspectives and broaden your market.
  3. Drive when the traffic is less. In addition to saving you time, you consume less fuel and save more money.
  4. Invest in solar inverters. Renewable energy options like inverters make electricity from solar energy instead of petrol. So cut down on the stress and cost of fuelling and the noise from generators, by converting energy from the sun into electricity for your home.
  5. Ask for flex time. This means reclaiming time from traffic as you can come into the office and leave at different hours when there is less traffic on the road. And you can put saved time to better use.
  6. Consider going on a vacation. The retreat and relaxation would get you refreshed and ready for doing better at work. Calabar and Akwa Ibom are lovely all year long.
  7. Think outside the box, move. Busy cities like Lagos and Port Harcourt are notable for irritating road traffics. With the onslaught of the internet, if you don’t have to work on your job in the office, you can consider negotiating terms by working away from the office. Remember, reduced stress at work means increased output.
  8. Be patient while driving. A two-second delay can prevent a two-hour delay caused by slight accidents or two years of being bedridden from major accidents.
  9. Get a toll gate card. If you have to pay your path through a toll gate, get a card or sticker. With available eTAG options, this is easier, cheaper, faster and the right thing to do.
  10. Order online. Ease yourself of unnecessary duties by making online orders and having them deliver to your door. Also, you can outsource things you would want to deliver to a courier company.

Most importantly, research. Plan before heading out. Find whatever you want on connectnigeria.com. You can find relevant tips and information anywhere in Nigeria on Connect Nigeria.
