You are likely to spend at least five out of seven days in your job and it is a lot of time for you if you do not derive any form of satisfaction from it. Work hardly begins at 9am if you work a 9-5 job. You would have to consider the time to commute, alongside other preparation and circumstances within and outside of your control. This choice of job and career choice is very critical, as you will be doing it for a long time.

People switch jobs all the time for different reasons. They may feel like they are stuck or unable to express themselves. Whatever the reason you have, ensure it is far from just an emotional one. Here are different indicators that will help you make up your mind about your job.
  • Salary and benefits

One of the main reasons why people may decide to quit a job is if their responsibilities are not commensurate to their earnings. Sometimes, it begins like this, but when there is no space for growth or expansion, no benefits or promotion, you just might have to consider other options.

A healthy work environment ensures that you are compensated for your efforts. This is because a well compensated employee is motivated to put in their best and increase productivity.

Another thing worth considering is the benefits gotten in the job. Sometimes, the salary is meagre, but you will have access to mentorship and grow at a fast pace. You might even be encouraged to explore other streams of income to complement the salary. Other times, there might be periodic bonuses to augment your salary as well. When these benefits are absent, then there is a need to reconsider your job options.

  • Work life balance

Almost all jobs are quite intense. They take up a huge part of your time, usually 40 hours per week and this could pose a great challenge to the other areas of your life. You must however consider other areas of your life, like your relationships, health, family, hobbies, finances etc. If you can still create time for these other areas of your life, then you are maintaining work life balance. If this is not the case with your job, you have good reasons to leave.

  • Work environment

This may be the top reason to consider quitting a job. An unhealthy work environment is one which does not give you the liberty to grow and improve yourself. It is also one which has a high tendency to taint one’s reputation. Are people in your office stimulated to grow and work without fears? Is the environment draining you more than it is developing you?

The answers to these questions will guide your choice and decisions.

  • Growth opportunities

Sometimes, there is nothing wrong with your job save the fact that you have outgrown it. You will know you have outgrown a job when the job challenges no longer excite you and stimulate growth. You probably have grown to the peak of your career and need greater growth opportunities.

When your role stops to excite you, or challenge you to grow, you should consider more growth opportunities outside your job.

As much as you love your job, you might need to also pay attention to your body and present life’s status. Some jobs are not just the right fit for you emotionally, mentally and even physically. If you find yourself in such peculiar situation, it is recommended that you talk with your boss or the HR department, to see if there are certain changes that can be made with special considerations to you.

Remember that you are priority and if you do not feel comfortable in any way, your output will inevitably be affected.
