If you’re an employer or an employee, this article will show you 6 tips for dealing with toxicity in your workplace.
  1. Avoid Responding To Toxicity With Toxicity

This is the most unhealthy thing to do. Never respond to a toxic coworker in the same manner of toxicity. The consequence of responding in like manner is that you encourage your opposition to continue the spread; he or she is made relevant by your response. So practice deliberate deafness towards a toxic coworker. When you do, they’re deprived of attention and see the abnormalities of their toxic culture.
  1. Don’t Take Work Stress Into Your Home

There’s a tendency to carry your work stress home and vent to your partner, roommates and so on. The consequence of taking work stress, especially those that are related to a toxic workplace, to your home is that the stress becomes dominant in your discussion with your partner or roommate. This can create an atmosphere of continuous hatred and bitterness which can spill in no time. Sometimes you can bore your partner or roommate with workplace stress. It can also affect your mental health.
  1. Seek Partnership With Positive Coworkers

Even if you’re in an atmosphere charged with toxicity, there will be few coworkers who share the same plight with you. You can seek friendship and partnership with people who share the same values as you. Doing this will keep you sane as you people will likely be of support system to each other.

  1. Be Tactical About Confronting Toxicity in Workplace

When you feel you can no longer endure workplace toxicity, approach the toxic individual with tact and address such issues with him or her. Be more confident, show that you’re not in for a fight and you mean no harm or ridicule.
  1. Earn Trust

If you’re faced with a toxic manager, learn to offer him the things he craves for. It could be information, inclusion and even control. Often managers want to be in control and they go about it with so much toxicity. The best way to address this problem is to report to two or three witnesses who might mediate between you and your employer.
  1. Change Your Job/Department

When there is unbearable toxicity in the workplace, you can call it a quits. If your manager is always making life unbreakable for you in the workplace, your job is to talk with other coworkers or people you feel he respects. If this fails, it’s advisable to look elsewhere.
