No matter what situation you are currently in, it is imperative to know that there are other people who are in worse conditions. A sick person for example constantly prays to become healthy while the healthy person prays to become richer or more comfortable. Human wants are endless and we will always want more than we already have. Sometimes, we have more than enough but we do not appreciate until it’s gone. Our lives consist of all the people, material things, dreams and aspirations we have. The life you are currently living might not be all you wanted but how do you appreciate it as you have it? Here are some notes to help you to be grateful:

  • Realize how short it is.

People say it all the time, they go on and on about how we only have limited time to spend in this world and how we should use it wisely. The important thing about all this is that you never truly understand the concept until you think about it yourself. Each day passes by within 24 hours which is a short period of time if you spend it doing nothing meaningful. An important way to appreciate what you have is to realize that this life is short and the next day is not guaranteed. Once you know this, perhaps you will able to hold on and be grateful that you still have a life.

  • Know the important things. most important things are not thingsMoney and material things will only give you temporary happiness which cannot last. If you rely on these to keep you happy, then I’m afraid nothing will ever be enough. To genuinely appreciate life, one has to see the important aspects and ignore the ones that do not last. Appreciate the people who have helped you get to where you currently are and you will begin to see the reasons why you should be thankful.

  • Look back. gratitudeInstead of looking at people who have much more than you do, take a moment to see the ones that have a lot less than you. Remember that if you do not appreciate what you have, someone else will. Take some time to visit the sick people who are incapacitated or the needy ones that roam the streets daily in search of their daily bread and have no hopes of a better tomorrow. To appreciate the life you currently have, look back to how far you have come instead of worrying about how soon you want to get to your destination.
