Agbani Darego, the first African to win the Miss World beauty pageant, spearheads another first as she recently announced the launch of her new denim line; an unusual entrepreneurial option for Nigerian beauty queens. Actually it’s just an unusual entrepreneurial option for Nigerians to venture into, generally speaking. Most start clothing lines, or fashion outfits, or even go ahead to launch a perfume or two. So we ask Agbani, why denim?
“Launching AD by Agbani Darego is a dream come true for me. Jeans are my loved go-to everyday look and it’s a love I share with a lot of young girls and women for its comfort and simplicity. AD by Agbani Darego is a line that caters to the ease we require of our personal style and it has been a pleasure creating a line that’s intuitive to our body, style and pocket needs. I am excited about it and I hope that it will be well received” says the beauty queen/international model.
The first products to be launched are its range of Jeans, Polo Shirts, and its zip front shirt dress. The Jeans will come in four styles, and in the style of Tara Durotoye’s products, will be named after Nigerian names for women- Bola for the Trouser Leg, Aisha for Classic Cut, Ify for Boyfriend Jeans and Nosa, skinny Jeans.
I’m sure you’re eager to know where you can get yours. The denim line would be available in stores and online as from June, 2013. The clothing comes in a variety of washes and the price of each would range from N6, 500 to N12, 500.
