Many people rely heavily on their personal computer to work. But after some time, an optimally functioning computer may begin to display annoying signs like taking long to boot or respond. Although this may be as a result of hardware problems, there are some things you may be doing that may be negatively affecting your system. Here are some of them.

  1. Failing to back up regularly This may cause you to lose important data when problems arise. A system back up does not require much time and is easy to perform. Sites like Google and DropBox offer a cloud storage service that enables you save files on the internet. You can also back up using a hard drive.
  2. Not updating the antivirus An antivirus stops malware and viruses from piling up in your system. Hence, it has to be up-to-date. The absence of an antivirus or an updated one is perhaps the easiest way you are screwing up your system. Computer malware can unexpectedly force you to format your PC in which case you might lose data. So, having an updated antivirus and backing up regularly goes hand-in-hand.
  3. Using weak passwords Passwords are the key to accessing your different accounts. A weak password makes it easy for others to guess easily which makes your PC vulnerable to hacking. Avoid using only passwords of only alphabets or numbers. Instaed use alphanumeric passwords in combinations that make it difficult for your accounts to be hacked.
  4. Not upgrading your operating system The generic OS, Windows 10, for instance, is last in the series of Microsoft Windows. If you have not upgraded to 10, you should at least have Windows 8.1 instead of Windows 8 or 7. The current Windows offers some security features that are not available for other Windows.
  5. Downloading from unsafe websites There are certain websites you visit that may put your system at risk. Most of them include sites where movies, music, games and porn are downloaded. Henceforth, before you download anything, make sure you are downloading from a safe website. Installing a good antivirus will alert you if the site is not safe.
