On the other hand, we have fabrics that are not indigenous, but are sold and used by Nigerians.  In a broad category of fabrics, there are two types of fabric, based on the type of fiber used: Natural and synthetic fibers. Natural fibers are gotten from plants and animals while synthetic fibers are made by man. This article will highlight some of the fabrics sold in Nigerian markets that are mostly worn by women.

They differ in terms of price, quality and design. Some are: net, fish net, sugar, tulle, cord, paper, sequined, beaded, jute, George, and French laces.  Some of the laces come in single colours, while others are a combination of different colours. The lace fabric, because of its transparency, is usually lined with a fabric with the same colour of the lace or a contrasting colour. Lace fabrics are usually worn to parties and events.
  1. Silk
Silk fabric is another common fabric available in Nigeria. It has a soft texture and it is very comfortable on the skin. It can be worn with or without lining. One major distinction between silk and other fabrics is the smooth, slippery and glossy nature of the fabric.
