All roads will lead to Enugu for the 2015 edition of Ola Ndi Igbo on Saturday, October 17th, 2015. The summit is set on connecting Igbo professionals from Europe, United States and Nigeria for the purpose of celebrating the achievements of the Igbo community and strategising for the future. The summit’s previous edition took place in 2013 and was well-attended by a range of prominent individuals in the society including former Coordinating Minister of Finance and Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; world-renowned supermodel, Oluchi Orlandi; Nollywood and music veteran, Onyeka Onwenu and British-Nigerian Olympian, Kris Akabusi. The Lagos-held event kicked off with a high level discussion and strategy session on issues affecting Igbo people, and concluded with a variety night and celebration featuring festive traditional performances and delicious local cuisine. Guests were also finely dressed in a range of colourful native attires; the highlight of what was indeed a spectacular programme. A range of post-summit initiatives emerged, all of which aim to enhance economic progress in the Igbo community:
  1. The creation of an entrepreneurship and vocational training centre for youth in the Southeast
  2. A soul searching summit titled Ola Ndi Igbo
  3. A business training programme for Igbo traders in Alaba Market, one of the largest electronics markets in Nigeria.
Notably, these exclude the significant business and social initiatives formed from partnerships of attendees living in the United States, Europe and Nigeria. In light of the 2013 summit, this year’s edition of Ola Ndi Igbo is set to cause greater impact in Igbo society, foster more friendships and partnerships, engage with participants on a wider range of issues and celebrate Igbo culture in a more explosive way. There will also be a showcasing of excellent initiatives being placed by social innovations to celebrate and strengthen Igbo history, culture, music, language and values, which are worthy of support, and the rewarding of the winner of the Innovation Marketplace Competition.
