We live in a fast paced world, where everyone seems to be in a rush. A day in the average Nigerian’s live is filled with a million tasks, a million distractions, traffic and limited time to get important things done. Sometimes we get so busy that we skip meals. And even when we do get to eat, we gobble it all down so fast; just to get to the next thing. Here’s a tip – take the time to smell the roses, or in this case, take the time to eat. Eating slowly has been known to have several health and social benefits. Benefits of Eating Slowly Weight loss: Have you ever felt hungry, and got yourself a big meal, but found out after the meal that you were still hungry? Studies show that it takes the stomach about 20 minutes to communicate to your brain that you are full. Eating slowly gives your brain the time to remove the feeling of hunger and replace it with fullness. This will prevent you from getting that extra plate. Prevents indigestion: Indigestion results when large chunks of food types like fat and protein, which are hard to digest, are wolfed down. Eating slower allows you to really chew your food, which makes it easier for your stomach to digest. Increased nutrition: When you chew your food slower, it allows more nutrition to be extracted from that food, and helps your stomach work on the food better and faster. Strengthens relationships: Once upon a time, families gathered around a big meal, shared tales under the moonlight and ate slowly. Ok, we may not be able to tell tales under the moonlight these days, but we can still take the time to interact with family and build strong relationships with colleagues while we eat. Did you know that creating stronger relationships with co-workers makes you happier and more productive? It really does. Take the extra 10-15 minutes to eat your meal, and begin enjoying these benefits.   ConnectNigeria.com – Need it? Search it, Find it!
