Jobberman, a Nigerian job search portal and career platform, has released its report on the Top 100 Companies to Work for in Nigeria for in 2019. The list features corporations with the highest approval ratings from thousands of employees and job seekers in the country.
The report is published annually by Jobberman to celebrate companies that provide the best working conditions and employee welfare packages for their staff, in a commercial environment that’s often criticized for its lack of regard for workers.

This year’s edition is the fifth of its kind, and it features some of Nigeria’s most well-known businesses. As in previous years, there’s a significant showing by multinational firms; industries like oil and gas, finance, technology, and giants in the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector are also well represented.
The List
Shell tops the list of 100 companies to work for in Nigeria. It’s one of the five oil and gas concerns in the top ten, the others being Chevron (in second place), NNPC (4th), ExxonMobil (6th), and Total (8th). Dangote (3rd), Nestle (5th), MTN (7th), Andela (9th), and KPMG (10th) make up the first percentile.
GTBank was the highest-ranked bank on the list in 13th place, with First Bank, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank following in 21st, 24th, and 25th positions respectively. Besides MTN, other telcos on the list included Glo, which came in at 16th, and Airtel, ranked 33rd.
Andela was the top company on Jobberman’s list for 2018. And while it continues to lead the technology category, it has fallen nine places on the overall list. This may have happened in part because it laid off hundreds of junior programmers in September. Google, Microsoft, Paystack, and Interswitch complete the top five of employers in tech in Nigeria.
Chevron was voted the most respected and admired company in the country.
The Selection Criteria
Jobberman says its report is based on feedback from 3,148 respondents. The sample was selected to represent real-world spreads of Nigeria’s worker demographic with respect to age, gender, employment status, and career stage.

The respondents were asked to rank intrinsic and extrinsic traits they desired in a company, nominate the top three companies they desired to work for, and the top three that they admired the most. Respondents also rated their companies.
The survey revealed that people liked companies with strong relatable values and goals, open and effective management, flexible hours, transparent performance management, and health management. It also indicated that intrinsic traits like competitive pay packages, career growth, job security, financial stability, and welfare benefits were widely considered as desirable.
