In the days of NITEL, 042 was the Enugu call code. For some reason, this code survived the demise of NITEL and has become the unofficial code for Enugu. If you’re still wondering about the connection between NITEL and the Restaurant under review, I’ll tell you (because I’m not like the social media folks who will tell you: “if you don’t get it, forget about it”. Lol). The connection is the code. One can therefore deduce, from the name of this Restaurant, that it is a place where the best of Enugu delicacies like Abacha, Okpa, Fiofio, Achicha Ede, Akidi can be enjoyed. However, the menu at this Restaurant is not limited to these Enugu delicacies – as nkwobi, pepper soup, ukwa, isi ewu and other native delicacies are also available as well.

Before I proceed to the in-depth review, I’d like to thank my cousin, Ifunanya, whose first-hand experience at the Restaurant contributed to this review. The O42 Garden and Lounge is located at 24 Crescent, Opposite Park 24 Garden, off 2nd Avenue, Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja. According to Ify, it has an open-air setting and the food is luscious. She added that the Abacha is as astoundingly delicious as any you’d get from the high-profile Abacha spots in Enugu – the Abacha republic; and that the little nkwobi which she tasted from her friend’s plate was simply delightful. The palm wine with which they were served their meal was fresh and cold. The bar services at 042 Restaurant, however,  isn’t limited to palm wine. Red wine, hot drinks and assorted cold beer are also available.  Did I mention that the prices are pocket-friendly? Well, according to Ify, they are. She noted that Payments can be made in cash but other payment options are available too.

She also reported that the best part of the evening for her was the live band. On a relaxing evening outing, great food and good music are equated to a match made in heaven; and if the company is right, then, it’ll be considered the icing on an already perfect cake.  Beyond the food and the drinks, however, Ify noted that the Restaurant is wheelchair accessible. She added that the parking lot is large but the Restaurant has a larger customer base. This makes parking a bit of an issue at certain times, but the Customer Service is excellent, nonetheless. In general, Ify concluded that her experience at the 042 Restaurant was a beautiful one and that she’d love to visit again and/or recommend it to anyone in Abuja who has a taste for well-prepared southeastern delicacies.
