ConnectNigeria_Alhaji-Aliko-Dangote   1.Dangote Cement is Launching a New Product called ‘Dangote Cement 1X’  in response to popular demand by customers, as well as in full com­pliance with the SON directive encouraging production of all grades of cement but with clear labeling on the use. Group Managing Director, Dangote Cement, Devakumar Edwin noted that the entrance of the 32.5 cement grade from Dangote would ensure that the consumer pays the appropriate price for the right value rather than paying more for lower grade as is presently the case in the market. 2. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) yesterday said the formal and informal sectors recorded 500,224 new jobs in the first half of the year, with Education creating the most jobs: “The education (private) sector dominated the formal sector with the most number of jobs, taking up 23,643 jobs, representing 31 per cent of the total share, followed by manufacturing with 11,088 jobs, representing 14.6 per cent,” said Dr. Yemi Kale, The Statistician-General of the Federation. 3. General Electric’s Distributed Power business has stated that United Kingdom-based distributed power provider, Clarke Energy will be supplying GE’s new diesel engines to Flour Mills Nigeria Plc, as part of GE’s efforts to solve the country’s energy distribution challenges and encourage sustained growth in the emerging industrial sector, THISDAY reports. 4. A non-profit organisation, GS1 Nigeria has advised the use of barcodes to sanitise retail trade and ‎manufacturing activities in the country. President, GS1 Nigeria, Asiwaju Onafowokan explained that the use of barcodes will go a long way to enhance Nigeria’s operational performance to create unparalleled inventory management, accuracy of records, supply chain efficiency, traceability, product retail, product authentication, data management and anti-counterfeiting. 5. The Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Company (NMRC) has released a statement clarifying that civil/public servants desirous of getting financed by it in the new mortgage scheme must fully key into the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Management System (IPPIS) platform.  IPPIS is an electronic platform introduced by the federal government to create a centralised database system for the public service with single, accurate source of employee information integrated with other business applications. 6. Following the approval of a recommendation of the Police Service Commission, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, has posted new commissioners to head the Police Commands of 20 States and the FCT. 7.  The Investment Corporation of Dubai, the investment arm of the government of Dubai, has acquired 243,500 million units of Dangote Cement Plc for $300m (N48.7bn) at N200 per unit from Dangote Industries Limited. “They share our vision of Africa that will grow to become an economic powerhouse in the coming decades as its people rise to become prosperous members of the global economy,” said Dangote. 8. French oil giant, Total targets to build solar power plants that will generate 1,000 megawatts in Nigeria as part of the company’s efforts to address the power supply challenges in the country. The Managing Director of Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria, Mrs. Elisabeth Proust, stated, “We have a big organization on solar energy in Total in Nigeria and we have a special team that is ready to assist on the special technical side to address any challenges.” 9.  Transcorp Hotels, part of the Transcorp Plc conglomerate, has filed for an 8 billion ($49.3 million) initial public offering of 800 million ordinary shares of 50kobo. 10. At a meeting held with managers of the nation’s airports in Abuja yesterday, the Minister of Aviation, Mr. Osita Chidoka, warned that any airport manager who was not ready to serve the public should be ready for sack: “It will require us to create common minimum standards across all the airports and to ensure that each manager maintains that minimum standard. It will also mean that the airport managers will have a mindset change from being airport managers to become service deliverers,” he said.
