Earlier this year Whatsapp announced that they will be ending support for its app for BlackBerry devices including BB10. The company will also do away with WhatsApp Messenger for Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, smartphones with Android 2.1, Android 2.2 and Windows Phone 7.1 While we were still wondering how lovers of the BlackBerry devices would cope with this decision, Facebook this week also announced that they will be dropping support for Blackberry devices for their Facebook app and Facebook Messenger app Reacting to this development, a spokesperson for BlackBerry wrote on the official BlackBerry blog. “We are extremely disappointed in their decision as we know so many users love these apps. We fought back to work with WhatsApp and Facebook to change their minds, but at this time, their decision stands,” BlackBerry users will continue to be able to use the mobile web version of Facebook to post and consume content, but without a native client. For customers who care about social media, this move likely means buying a BlackBerry is off the table, which is undoubtedly a hard blow for the company.
