You have a ton of things to do. But you dread taking them on because it’s hard work. When you think about how gruelling and cumbersome the task could be, you’re tempted to put it off for a while longer. But it’s still there. Eventually, you’ll have to attend to it.

What if there’s a way to make hard work feel easy? This would make you more eager to do the job. And if you can apply this ‘technique’ (whatever it is) to other tasks, you’ll increase your productivity and earn the benefits that come with this. Here are five things you can do to make hard work feel easier, so you don’t have to sweat at the thought of your next assignment.

Gamify It

This simply means dividing a large amount of work into smaller chunks that you can tackle, one at a time, and rewarding yourself for each task you complete. This tactic is especially useful if you’re dealing with a project that takes a lot of time and effort to complete. There are at least two advantages you gain from gamifying work. First, the job becomes less intimidating. Also, the joy of completing a part of the job, and the reward you get for doing so, are motivations for going on to the next chunk. Eventually, you’ll accumulate enough wins to complete the project itself.

Emphasize The Fun Parts

Instead of dreading the difficult aspects of work, think about the various ways you could make it more fun. This isn’t always easy, but it’s seldom impossible. Sometimes, you will have to think differently about portions of the job. It’s a deliberate step and one that often pays off for those who practice it.

Confront Your Fears

There’s something about the work you dread that makes you think of it as hard work. What is it? Are you referring to the monotony or complexity of it? Is it the physical exertion involved, or the fact that it’s mentally challenging? Does it seem to stretch your abilities and skills to their limits?

Zero in on the exact difficulties you’re afraid of. This will give clarity about what you’re up against so that you can come up with ways to deal with them. In many cases, simply clarifying what the fear is about will significantly reduce the fear itself.

Visualize Completion

A proven motivation technique for any task is to visualize yourself completing it. This visualization gives you a glimpse into a possible future, one that you can achieve if you devote yourself to achieving it. The inspiration here is that the achievement is within your reach. You just have to make it happen.

Keep At It

Often, the best way to make work easier is to keep doing it. When you’ve engaged with a task long enough, you’ll master the steps and processes involved, and find simpler ways to meet your targets. Of course, you’ll have to start first. But if you summon the courage to do so, you’ll be closer to completing it than if you didn’t. And you may even be better at it.

Final Words

Hard work is often important work.  No one would bother with potentially gruelling tasks if they were of little significance. This means that we’ve all encountered—or will encounter –hard work if we’re doing something worthwhile. Thankfully, you can make hard work considerably easier by following the steps we’ve discussed here. Featured Image Source: Voice And Viewpoint
