It’s a new year! While this calls for celebration, a new year can be intimidating especially when it follows one that was undeniably tough. I’m not one to keep new year resolutions and neither do I encourage others to do so because of the undue pressures they come with. However, I believe it is important to be mindful of the ways you can make the new year better than the former.

This is best done by adopting positive mindsets that will set you up for success, so that you can smile back at all your accomplishments when December 31 comes knocking again. Here are 4 mindsets to adopt in 2021.

Self-Trust Mindset

Have you been procrastinating on something because you think you don’t have what it takes to achieve it? Remember, people who achieve great things have a lot of trust and belief in themselves. Start chasing those dreams and goals you’ve set for yourself as long as they’re realistic. If you have negative thoughts holding you back, expel them and replace them with positive ones. Be brave and believe in the things that are important to you. It’s better to do it afraid than not try at all.

Goal-Setting Mindset

Goals give you a sense of direction and serve as a reminder of the path you’ve chosen to embark on. Follow the SMART formula and set goals that not only motivate you but challenge you to take action.

Courageous Mindset

‘Can a man still be brave if he’s afraid?’ ‘That is the only time a man can be brave,’
his father told him. This line from the show, Game of Thrones, is one of my favourite quotes ever. It supports the notion that we don’t have to be completely sure of ourselves to start taking action. Thankfully, courage is like a muscle – the more action you take, the bolder you become.

Learning Mindset

Learning takes place when you experience life. Both good and bad experiences come with lessons that help you grow. Be open to more experiences in the new year. Challenge yourself to try new things and see every failure and setback as an opportunity to learn about yourself and the world. In this way, you’ll be unstoppable.
