The award was conferred on her on Monday by the University of Westminster at her annual graduation ceremony in London. She was a student at the university in 1993 and graduated with an MA degree in Manpower studies. She would, however, put her HR career aside to pursue her passion for media and broadcasting. While receiving the award at London’s Royal Festival Hall, Abudu urged the graduates to find their passion and pursue it:
“The most important thing in life is to find your God-given purpose and passion – I mention God because I am a strong Christian and I truly believe he directs my every step. But going back to purpose – please find that thing you are passionate about, that you feel you were born to do. Then, spend every day planning and carrying out that purpose. It’s not always easy to find – but if you persevere, it will never fail you. When things get tough – and they will – just keep forging ahead – stay focused – be tenacious – and eventually your purpose will multiply and become unstoppable!”
Her first honorary doctorate degree was awarded in 2014 by one of Nigeria’s leading private tertiary institutions, Babcock University. Mo has, during her media career, produced and hosted Africa’s most successful TV talk show “Moments With Mo”, produced the record-shattering “Wedding Party” movie, signed a mega film production deal with one of the world’s biggest media houses – Sony Pictures Television – and earned a place among the 100 most influential people of African and Caribbean heritage, among other achievements. She has received Forbes Magazine’s recognition as the first female African to launch a pan-African TV channel and was referred to by popular news network, CNN as ‘Africa’s Queen of Media who conquered the continent’. Her new film “Chief Daddy” is scheduled for release next month, and we can’t wait to see another box office record breaker.
