A few months ago there had been rumours about the introduction of a new naira note and how the Late Biafran Leader, Ojukwu, was going to be the focus of the note.
Well the rumours about the new naira note are right but not about the image that will be featured on it.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has stated that they will be releasing the new legal tender for Nigeria in the form of a 5000 Naira Note.
The Governor stated:”
Under the new structures, the existing denomination of N50, N100, and N200, N500 and N1000 will be redesigned with added new security features, the lower notes of N5, N10 and N20 will be converted to coins.”
The images featured on the note will be of three women who made an impact in our economy in different ways. The women are
Margaret Ekpo, Funmilayo Kuti and
Hajiya Gambo Sawaba.
