The Chairman of Isolo Local Council Development (LCDA) Shamsudeen Olaleye, has flagged off an environmental exercise code named ‘Operation No Refuse’ in the council area. The initiative is in tandem with the state government’s initiative geared towards making the environment cleaner, safer and healthier for all the residents. On Monday the flag-off was held at Nwachukwu Drive in Okota with the council boss, environmental officers and cleaners cleaning up heaps of refuse at the site. Olaleye, speaking on the exercise said the ‘Operation No Refuse’ is to reduce the heap of refuse dumps in various places within council before the commencement of the Cleaner Lagos Initiative, (CLI), which will be launched by the government on September 1st 2017. The cleanup will be extended to Isolo, Alagbeji, Ishagatedo/Ire-Akari, Ilasamaja, Ago and Ajao Estate areas in the next two weeks. He, therefore, urged residents to clean their environments regularly to avoid the outbreak of cholera and malaria. Meanwhile, the council boss has tasked revenue officers of the council to improve on their performance in generating revenue. Olaleye made this known when he had a meeting for the first time with staff of revenue department of the council. He added that his administration is committed to better the lives of people if the revenue officers generate enough fund into the council’s wallet. Edited from TheGuardian
