Human Resource heads and practitioners gathered to learn from HR Leaders from leading local and multinational organisations including Etisalat, Cadbury, MTN Communications, Airtel, PZ Cussons, Unilever and GE at this year’s HR Leaders in Africa Conference. The conference which ran from the 3rd to the 6th of June, 2013 took centre stage at the prestigious Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Lagos. The speakers shared practical and proven approaches to attract, engage and retain talents, motivate employees, plan successions and talked about leadership and organisational capability. Basically, pressing issues for HR professionals. Lessons Learnt Employee Engagement: employee engagement is the game changer for organisations. According to several studies, organisations with a high level of employee engagement consistently outperform organisations with low employee engagement. Olufunke Amobi, General Manager, Organization & Talent Development at MTN Communications Nigeria shared some approaches to increase employee engagement, which included:

  • Empowering employees at their jobs
  • Supporting and recognizing employees
  • Placing organizational structures and strategies
