However, assembling talented individuals into becoming a team isn’t enough. The big question is if they can be the winning team. Imagine having a team that crushes goals, hits deadlines, marks so many victories within a short space of time and has so many medals on its shelves. Working as a team isn’t enough, but working as a winning team is all that makes the difference in your organisation. Therefore, hiring talented individuals is one thing, and assembling them into a winning team is another. In this article, I share a few tips on how to build a winning team.
  • Be United In Shared Values
Assembling a winning team is not just putting a group of talented people into one team and giving them a task to do. Whether you are the team lead, a team member or the supervisor, your company must employ those individuals who share the company’s values and ideals. When members of the same team share the same values, they tend to work in harmony and flow in the same direction because they are led by the same spirit.
  • Respect Diversity
A winning team is that type of team that does not discriminate along the lines of ethnicity, tribe, colour, gender, race, religion and age. The undeniable truth about teams is that they are usually diverse, especially in our modern-day workspaces littered all over urban areas of the world. Studies have shown that disrespect for diversity has led to breakdowns in workspaces. There are many organisations where people are discriminated against on the account of gender, tribe and so on.  The consequences of not respecting diversity or even celebrating it is that work can easily become too toxic for those discriminated against, it can lead to breaks in communication which can hamper the free flow of work and can blatantly hinder progress.

  • Focused On Goals And Objectives
To build a winning team, goals and objectives must be stated and team members must channel their time and talents toward achieving them. It is useless to set up a team when there is no goal to be won. Goals are what give a winning team drive. Therefore, the agenda for team formation must be the goals and objectives to be achieved, no more, no less.
  • Specify Roles
Just like a football team, there is the role of goalkeeping, defending, attacking, mid-fielding, and so on. This is how a winning team is developed. Ensure that each member is informed and educated about their roles and responsibilities in the team. When each one is aware of his or her responsibilities and roles, there is harmony and free flow of movement in the workplace.
  • Celebrate Strengths
Celebrating strengths also means acknowledging the strengths of each team member and matching their strengths with the right roles and responsibilities. You might hire the right talents, but when there is misfitting in roles, it might lead to breaches in the workplace.
  • Create Communication Space
Communication is essential for developing a winning team. Lack of communication between team members can lead to conflict, which can stall progress. Therefore, building a winning team is all about building a space where team members communicate frequently and at the same time bond. Also, building a communication link within and outside the work area can necessitate unity among team members. Featured Image Source: Leadership Worth Following
