Last week, Paris, France, played host to actors, directors, filmmakers, journalists and other key players in the Nigerian movie industry at the Nollywood Week in Paris. The 3rd edition, which was 4 day event, from Thursday 3rd May to Sunday 6th May had a line-up of popular Nollywood faces, including Kunle Afolayan, Lala Akindoju, Tunde Kelani, OC Ukeje, and Iroko TV CEO Jason Njoku. The film festival is an annual event which showcases the very best of the Nigerian film industry with the aim of finding a larger audience and more sustainable distribution system for these quality films, especially as the industry is constantly improving their craft. There were several sessions which included world Premieres for new films, Masterclasses, Pitching Sessions, events for established and upcoming actors and more. Usually, comedies and dramas make up the most created and most loved films, however, horror, period pieces, musicals, romance and short films are also shown at the event. Below is the list of 16 films selected at this year’s edition. Film Selection for #nwp2018 Potato Potahto A divorced couple decides to continue living together and soon realizes that this ingenious idea is easier said than done. Grouf Poto A short film comedy on the simple rules of corruption. The Lost Café When a young woman decides to pursue her dream career and move to Norway to further her studies in filmmaking, she becomes torn between two worlds. Tolu A short film about a young girl in a Nigerian fishing village who decides to help her family and learns to believe in herself. Isoken Everyone in the Osayande family worries about Isoken. Although she is beautiful, successful and well-liked, Isoken is 34 and unmarried which, in her culture, is a serious cause for concern. Alter Ego Ada Igwe is a highly revered law attorney who has focused a substantial part of her law practice on seeking justice against sex offenders, even when the courtroom fails her. However, a dark secret puts her at odds with the very thing she hates most. How will she reconcile her own demons before its too late? Kasala! Taking place in a Nigerian slum, Tunji, a fast-talking teenager, borrows his no-nonsense Uncle’s car and gets his friends, Chikodi, Effiong & Abraham to join him on a Joyride around the neighbourhood. Things turn sour when they crash the car and only have 5 hours to raise the required funds to fix the vehicle before Tunji’s Uncle gets back from work. They resort to avenues known to each one of them in order to get quick money. The Wedding Party 2 Nonso proposes by accident while on a dinner date and sets off a chain of events too powerful to stop. The Dark Box Fido is all too eager to put his one-minute time machine to use in winning the heart of Kiki until he discovers the unexpected consequences of his actions Sylvia World Premiere Richard Okezie is loyal when it comes to love, which is good since Sylvia, his childhood friend and the woman of his dreams, takes loyalty seriously…. The Delivery Boy World Premiere Amir, a young Nigerian terrorist, goes rogue right before his final mission, in a quest to resolve his heartbreak from a secret romantic affair. BIG (Banana Island Ghost) Special screening A ghost that is scared to go to heaven because he never found his soulmate convinces God to give him three days to find love. Still, Water Runs Deep The intimate story of a man whose concealed emotions begin to stir when faced with the portent of a missing son. The Housewife Mr Donald maintains a highly satisfying job, his children are taken care of and his wife takes care of him however despite his seemingly perfect life, he cannot shake the feeling that something is not right Waiting for Hassana In 2014, 276 teenage girls came together for exams in Chibok, Nigeria. By dawn, nearly all had disappeared and their school was burnt. Lagos Landing This love story inspired by true events centres around Jacqueline, an uptight middle-class Parisian woman who joins a dating site in search of the perfect novel-like romance and adventure she’s always imagined.
