Glovo currently operates in Lagos, Ibadan, and Abuja, where it works with 58 Chicken Republic outlets. Chicken Republic, on the other hand, operates over 300 outlets across Nigeria. This raises the question of whether the partnership is a precursor to Glovo’s expansion across Nigeria. However, Glovo executives have consistently said that they plan to focus on Lagos, Ibadan, and Abuja for the time being. Kofi Abunu, CEO of Food Concepts, the parent company of Chicken Republic, expressed hope that the partnership will improve the customer experience and delivery times. Lamide Akinola, the newly appointed General Manager for Glovo Nigeria, also expressed delight at the partnership.

“Since our initial collaboration with Chicken Republic in May 2022, we have demonstrated the ability to provide a fast and superior service for their customers. Thus, we are very proud that Chicken Republic, the leading QSR in Nigeria, has recognized our expertise and chosen us,” Akinola said. Glovo entered the Nigerian market in 2021 and has since been expanding aggressively. Billboards advertising the company can be seen in all of the cities where it operates. In May 2023, Glovo CEO Oscar Pierre visited Nigeria and explained that the company’s goal is to become a dominant player in the country’s quick commerce sector.

Glovo Nigeria currently employs over 1,000 couriers and about 50 employees. Pierre also disclosed that the startup has invested more than $3 million in Nigeria. He said that the company’s primary goal is to increase its customer base and improve its services. Featured Image Source: This Day Live
