Given that is the first week of the new month, let’s take a look at some of the first people to reach certain feats in the music industry in Nigeria.
  • Tu face, now called Tu Baba, was the first Nigerian to bag MTV’s African act. MTV is one of the most recognized music station in the world and in 2005, Tu Baba bagged the award for the best African act – he was the first Nigerian to get the award. Tubaba has since then gone on to receive a lot more awards from various platforms and has proven to indeed be one of the greatest to ever come into the Nigerian music scene.
  • Wizkid got into the billboard 100 first. In 2016, Drake dropped the song one dance where he featured Kyla and Nigerian artist Wizkid. The song went ahead to get into the chart debuting at no. 21. After reaching this feat, Wizkid tweeted that he was creating something iconic. Some of which we have started to see in present times (check out no.4).
  • Patoranking was the first to have his album feature on the Reggae Billboards. Before Patoranking, no Nigerian album had made it to the Billboard reggae charts. The dancehall artist had his “God over Everything” album on no.4 on the Billboard chart less than a fortnight after its release. Even more iconic about the achievement is the fact that it was his debut album.
  • Even more recently, Wizkid is the first Nigerian to sell out the Royal Albert Hall in London. A few days ago, Wizkid held a sold-out concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Our own Ojuelegba crooner had the entire hall packed to the brim as he performed his worldwide sought out music in front of the crowd. No African has achieved this feat and Wizkid has brought this achievement of pride home to us. Its #WizkidToTheWorld clearly.
