With the current economic situation in the country, the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose called on the Federal Government to increase the monthly allowance paid to Corps members from N19,800 to N50,000 as the current allowance was not enough to sustain corpers. The governor said this during the orientation ceremony for the 2017 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 of the NYSC at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Ise/Orun/Emure Ekiti. According to his representative Commissioner for Information, Youths and Sports, Mr Lanre Ogunsuyi, Governor Fayose said: “the state government will provide all the necessary support for the Corps members to make their service year memorable within the state”. The NYSC State Director, Barrister Ukagha Nwanor Eze urged the Corpers to be of good conduct always and see themselves as leaders of tomorrow. In her comment she said: “I want to charge all Corps members to always see themselves as leaders of tomorrow and stay away from corruption during and after the service year”. On the security of Youth corpers, the Permanent Secretary State Ministry of Information, Kola Ajumobi assured corps members deployed to the state of safety in their national assignment. “Ekiti State is the most peaceful state in Nigeria, Corps members can tour the 16 native governments of the state any time they like, they are very safe,” he said.
