The Connect Nigeria Business Mixer for bloggers was held on June 29, 2018, at the British Council, Lagos. This edition was themed ‘The Business of Blogging’ and there were over 70 participants in attendance comprising approximately 30 bloggers, 20 writers, and quite a number of social media personalities who leveraged on the strategic opportunity to freely network in an enabling environment. The Mixer kicked off with a panel sessionanchored by the very popular comedian and event compere, Lasisi Elenu. He introduced the panellists, Adesola Ade-Unuigbe (Editor-In-Chief, BellaNaija.com), Fisayo Fosudo (Tech YouTuber), Muyiwa Matuluko (Founder and Editor-In-Chief, Tech Point) and Ezinne Alfa (Founder, Beauty in Lagos). Muyiwa Matuluko was the first to speak, and he talked about the challenges of blogging in the tech space. He concluded by advising participants interested in Tech blogging to be creative with their unique ideas, in order to stand out from other blogs. Fisayo Fosudo warned against starting a blog with the intention of earning huge financial returns within unrealistic timelines because from personal experience, this approach is bound to backfire. Ezinne Alfa pointed out the benefits of focusing on one’sniche irrespective of what’s trending and finally, Adesola Ade-Unuigbe expounded on the importance of branding in the blogging space. In his closing remarks, Kanayo Aniegboka, Chief of Staff at Connect Nigeria, commended the speakers and delegates for keying into the Connect Nigeria Business Mixer vision by attending. He enthused that the Mixer is one of the media via which Connect Nigeria helps Nigerian SMEs to succeed, by providing an enabling environment where start-ups can freely network with established professionals in various fields. Participants were eventually treated to the much-anticipated networking session where they had the opportunity to hold private conversations with all speakers amidst music, cocktails and finger-foods. Feedback received thus far confirms that the event lived up to general expectations.
