One of Nigeria’s foremost media entrepreneurs, Mosunmola Abud (known as Mo Abudu), turned fifty-four on the 11th of September 2018.

CEO of Africa’s Foremost Global Black Television Network

Abudu is the CEO of  EbonyLife TV, located at Tinapa Resort in the South-South Nigeria tourist city of Calabar. The network, founded in 2013, is Africa’s pioneer global Black television network, producing top quality, original content and airing in at least forty-nine countries across Africa,the UK and the Caribbean. In March 2018, EbonyLife TV signed a 3-year deal with Sony Pictures Television to collaborate on three projects, including the production of “Dahomey Warriors” a TV series about the brave Amazons of the Kingdom of Dahomey, now the Benin Republic, who fought the French colonialists in the 19th century.

Producer Of Africa’s Highest Grossing Film

Abudu also established EbonyLife Films, with Fifty and The Wedding Party being two if its productions. The latter went on to become Nollywood’s highest-grossing film of all time, with a record Box Office gross of over ₦453,000,000.

Africa’s Most Successful TV Talkshow

She produced and hosted the popular TV talk show, Moments with Mo, Africa’s highest-rated daily syndicated talk show, which aired on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and later exclusively on Ebonylife TV. Moments with Mo has in no little way changed the outlook of TV talkshows across the continent. It aired consistently for over 9 years and featured as guests, serving presidents, former heads of governments, governors, Nobel Laureates, notable business moguls, politicians and even the 67th US Secretary-of-State. The show discussed a variety of topics ranging from politics, entertainment, culture and traditions, health, lifestyle and more. A spin-off of the show currently airs on Ebonylife simply as Moments.

The Debaters

Abudu was the brain behind the Guarantee Trust Bank sponsored reality TV show The Debaters, which promoted oratory in Africa and inspired positive changee.

Accolades

With international awards and recognitions like Forbes Africa’s first ever African woman to own a Pan-Africa TV channel, Hollywood Reporter’s 25 Most Powerful Women in Global TV (2013), Women Work in New York’s Entrepreneur of the Year award(2014), to mention only a few, Abudu is without a doubt one of Africa’s most influential women. This amazon has done well for herself, and has positively affected the world around her and deserves to be celebrated.
