As a civil engineering firm, it has also taken on many public construction projects commissioned by the government. It remains a household name in both spheres, enjoying a reputation that’s been built over several decades. Cappa and D’Alberto was founded in 1932 by two Italian immigrants, Pietro Cappa, and Viginio D’Alberto. The firm’s first key jobs were for the Catholic mission in Nigeria, specifically in Lagos and Abeokuta. Later on, it took on projects for the British colonial government in Yola and Jos. After Nigeria’s independence, Cappa and D’Alberto helped to construct living quarters for the workers who built the Kainji Dam and Tafawa Balewa Square. They have also built the National Stadium, Civic Center Towers, and the Union Marble Building, all in Lagos. It had earlier built the Cocoa House in Ibadan. These days, Cappa and D’Alberto works on construction projects, ranging from pre-construction services and cost planning to site remediation and quality assurance testing. They also renovate and repurpose buildings, and deliver mixed-use developments.
