A 16-year-old SS3 student of Ijaw National Academy, Kiama, Bayelsa State,  Martin Franklin on Wednesday, won the sum of One Million Naira for emerging the winner of the Maiden Bayelsa Essay Contest organized for Senior Secondary School students. The competition organized by an NGO, Robert Sunday Iworiso (RSI) Foundation, aimed at harnessing the energy, creativity and initiative of the Bayelsan Youth. The topic for the competition was “Education as imperative for National Development for global relevance.” The Director of the Foundation, Mr John Iworiso states that the purpose of the competition is to tap and discover talents from the creeks and farmlands of Bayelsa to the rest of the world. He believes that Education is the key to survival and liberation in the Niger Delta Region. Honestly, when a person gets through education and is able to apply the knowledge in solving challenges facing his society, such a person would be able to be free his or herself from community forces including; culture, ignorance, poverty and parochial ways of doing things. Education creates awareness among human beings and helps them realize their potential as human beings; enhance the relationship with oneself, his/her neighbour and the surrounding. Master Martin Franklin who emerged winner with the star prize of 1 million naira, Sweet-Owei Blessed Tari of Tare Pet Montessori School came second with two hundred and fifty thousand naira and Ayamieye Tamara-Ifie of Biedomo Priemer School in third place with hundred and fifty thousand naira, are liberators of their society. A feat achieved through the power of essay writing developed from Education. From the Essay caption, it is very obvious that the winner would be propelled to do more in attaining his dreams and potentials as he is reported to have said.  The prize he claimed had taken off a huge financial burden off his parent’s shoulders. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
