The Ghost and the House of Truth will premiere at the close of the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), holding from the 10th of November, 2019 to the 16th of November, 2019. On Day 6, when the Festival has undoubtedly begun to wind down, the film will screen at an exclusive cocktail event. Attendance is strictly by invitation.
Speaking on Akin Omotoso’s latest film, The Ghost and the House of Truth, Ego Boyo said:

Ego Boyo teams up with Akin Omotoso in this film to serve as producers of the feature. Ego Boyo, a pioneer Nollywood TV actress from the ’90s, set up her production company, Temple Productions in 1996. Ego Boyo received notoriety for her role as Ann Haastrup in the early Nigerian TV series, Checkmate. Her company’s first production, A Hotel Called Memory, won an audience award (Best Experimental Film) at a contemporary African film festival called the Black Star Film Festival in 2017. The Ghost and the House of Truth address the mental trauma and anxiety that often stems from human life without security.
In the film, a little girl living in a dysfunctional community does not return home after school one day, and her mother begins a frantic search for her child. Gauging from the trailer, Kate Henshaw puts up a solid performance as a pregnant but hardened police investigator. The idea of a pregnant police officer alone is a clearly stated challenge to the conventional views of most Nigerians. In combining these characters: a desperate mother and a pregnant police officer determined to catch the bad guys, Akin Omotoso’s film offers an intelligent examination of stereotypes in Nigerian society.
Omotoso is an accomplished filmmaker whose body of work enjoys significant recognition and praise. Much of his early work comes from his time in South Africa. He has directed a number of films and documentaries including Man on Ground, God Is African and Wole Soyinka – Child of the Forest. In 2016, he won an Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA) for his romantic comedy “Tell Me Something Sweet”. Vaya, a drama film he released in 2016, screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Joburg Film Festival. He is also known for acting in Lord of War alongside Nicolas Cage, Blood Diamond and South African TV series Generations.
AFRIFF will begin on the 10th of November and run until the 16th of November. The AFRIFF website makes it convenient for interested members of the public by providing a Festival Schedule which you can download on the AFRIFF website. On Day 6, the 15th of November, The Ghost and the House of Truth will show at the Filmhouse Cinemas, Landmark Retail Boulevard, Water Corporation Drive, Victoria Island, Lagos as the AFRIFF Festival’s closing film.

In October, AFRIFF announced that it was dedicating its 2019 edition, as well as future editions, to the celebration of female filmmakers. This year, AFRIFF is dedicated to SHEROES. Chioma Ude, AFRIFF founder and Executive Director said:
“We are proud to theme this year’s festival as one dedicated to SHEROES, those who enable us to dream and to celebrate storytelling which challenge society. We are very much focused on training and supporting more female filmmakers this year and beyond.”
