  Employees that stand out in a workplace are those that add value to their company. The truth is this: if you are always spotted as the ‘idea guy’, you are bound to be respected by colleagues and superiors alike. However, having an idea is one thing and having your employers embrace them is another.

It is very common for employees to have their great ideas ignored by their employers. It can be frustrating, and annoying and the feeling of unproductivity might erupt. As an employee, you might feel your employers are killing your creative vibes. You might be tempted to leave for elsewhere where your creative ideas will be appreciated. But here’s the problem: If you don’t learn to do a better job of presenting your ideas, they will crash. The same thing will happen over and over, no matter where you work. Here are some ways to deal with the difficulties getting in the way of your great ideas:
  • Present The “Change Or Die” Theory

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that companies who failed to innovate were left behind – in fact, shown died a permanent death. The same thing has repeated itself in the age of the internet and social media. For example, banks that don’t move along with technology found themselves in the darkness of history, left far behind by their contemporaries. On this note, when your superiors or colleagues question your idea on why you want to change the status quo or introduce a change, point them to these examples. 
  • Remind Them That Innovation Is All About Growth

When your great idea is being dismissed because they feel it won’t generate more revenues, remind them that your idea is novel. Persuade them that your idea is new and worth trying, because innovation means growth. Also, inform them that as they are worked, on it gets better.
  • Tell Them Your Idea Is Solving A Problem

People won’t accept your idea because they feel it’s “trivial”. However, it is your job to remind them that no matter how trivial it seems, it is solving a problem.
  • Tell Them It Is The First Step

Another reason ideas are rejected is because naysayers believe that it isn’t “big enough.” Not to worry, all you have to tell them is your idea is the first step and the idea keeps getting bigger and better as you work on them. Remind them that ideas are improved upon over time.
  • Tell Them It’s Unique 

Another reason why people shoot down your idea is that they haven’t seen it done elsewhere.

All you need to do is to emphasize that there’s a first time for everything and your idea offers a unique opportunity.
  • Tell Them To Try Again

One of the major reasons why your ideas get rejected is because it was tried before, and this could be a good argument. However, all you need to do is tell them “That was then. Conditions change and what we’re talking about probably wasn’t done in this way.”
  • Ideas Are Not Monopolized
