  There are times when major events make us lose control of our lives. These events could be a recent job loss, a new job, a college admission, a divorce, childbirth, loss of a loved one and so on. These events can be overwhelming that we might lose control of our lives. We feel lost and helpless as though life is running us instead of the opposite. This kind of feeling happens to everybody.

In this article, I highlight five ways to take charge of your life and live a fulfilled one.
  1. Let Go
The first step towards taking control of your life is to let go of what controls your life. There are several things that are militating against you from taking charge. They include fear, anxiety, resentment, negative belief system, expectations, etc. These above-mentioned things are reasons why many people are held captives by their own making. One of the ways of letting go is by educating yourself on your fears. You might be surprised that what you fear is actually not in existence. Educating yourself with useful materials can quench limiting beliefs.
  1. Let Happiness Be Your Most Priced Possession

Let happiness be your highest goal because when you’re happy you can be at peace with yourself and others. When happiness is absent, frustration sets in, which makes you feel you aren’t in control of your life.

  1. Be Open To Opportunities

Life comes in surprises. One of the ways to take charge of your life is to live a life of possibilities, a life that’s willing to embrace opportunities. That job you need, apply for it. That business you want to start, begin. That broken relationship you want to restore, don’t hesitate. When an offender comes to you to make up with you, it’s an opportunity to forgive. Every day is an opportunity. Most of the things we’ll regret on our death beds are not those things we did, but those things we didn’t do. You can create your opportunities by being deliberate in how you choose to live your life.
  1. Make Definite Statements About Achieving Small Goals

One of the ways to take control of your life is to be deliberate about it. You might not have all the courage to pursue mind-blowing and large goals yet, but making a very definite statement on little goals or plans can be a good way to start. You can start by saying that you will have boiled eggs for lunch, cereals for dinner. As simple as it sounds, it is a baby step towards taking control of your life. You could either say ‘I’ll write six pages daily for my new book.’ When you make a definite statement about achieving a daily goal you can grow into making definite statements of achieving bigger goals.
  1. Live On Your Own Terms

In a bid to please people we get controlled and obsessed over fulfilling societal expectations. Societal expectations are the reasons why many have lost control of their lives. They live for society. They fight to look good or compete with people who don’t even know they exist. There’s no general manual on how to live your life. Each man has his own manual. Draw up your own life manual where your personal values, passions, and interests are contained therein. Know what you can tolerate and afford. Remain true to yourself and be guided by your values.
