  • Build A Private Practice

With your knowledge as a nurse, rather than being a victim of unemployment or meager salaries, starting your private practice is the best way to become an entrepreneur. All you have to do is to get certified for private practice, and with such, you can diagnose and treat patients without an overseeing doctor.  Independent nursing practice can be flexible, and there are times when your services will be needed in private homes.
  • Maternity Homes

Another business enterprise nurses can start are maternity homes.  In Nigeria, nurses especially midwives are, however, backed by law to start or open a maternity home where they can take deliveries and attend to other pregnancy needs like antenatal services and even vaccinations. However, only certified nurse-midwives and nurse practitioners are qualified to venture into the business of owning birthing centers. Nigerian moms of low-income families readily patronize maternity homes or centers. Not only can it be a safe and comfortable place for moms to give birth, but it can also provide classes and other resources to the community at large around birth and parenthood. A birthing center is an excellent business idea for a nurse practitioner.

  • Create Useful Medical Devices and Apps

Using the help of an app developer, you can construct an app that helps moms diagnose their babies, remind them to take their medications, give them health advice, check the authenticity of drugs, etc. Moreover, as a nurse, you can create apps that can improve the interaction between patients and their care team and enable patient pre-assessment of serious conditions such as cervical cancer, and so on. There are plenty of opportunities for nurses to put their experience to good use when it comes to designing and developing an app or product.

  • Become a Medical Writer

Nurses are trained in so many medical courses that they are as good as doctors. They know a lot about medicine. Some nurses have gone through extensive training to receive their certifications. Some of them have Masters in nursing and are therefore thoroughly equipped with information medicines and other medical courses. Even with additional degrees, nurses are very qualified to become medical writers either by becoming book authors, bloggers, or by writing medical publications and even internal documents for healthcare facilities. With a freelancing platform like Upwork, Fiverr, and so on, you stand the chance of getting writing gigs and earning dollars. Nurses who love to share their knowledge would be great at this type of small business. Source: iStock Featured Image Source: Luna
