Pimples are spots which result on the skin when the skins pores are blocked. The spots are inflammations which are responses the skin produces either as immune or hormonal reactions. Here are 4 things you should know:
  1. Blocked pores: The skin’s oil or sebum produced by the sebaceous glands of the skin mixes with dead skin cells, dirt and bacteria causing the skin pores to block. When this happens, more sebum accumulates within the blocked pores; the bacteria feed, multiply and then produce substances that cause your skin to respond by getting inflamed. Always wash off make up and dirt and steam the face to release trapped oil and dirt.
  2. Certain foods and products: Depending on individual make up, certain foods and skin care products can trigger conditions which could lead to breakouts on your skin. Examples could include groundnuts, dairy and spices and a change of bath soap or cream. Try figuring out your skin reactions to certain food types and skin care products.
  3. Stress: Though stress may not be directly linked to causing pimples, when under pressure, your skin releases cortisol, a stress hormone that can stimulates the skin’s oil glands to produce more oils which in turn can clog your pores. To relieve stress, take a break and try not to focus on your worries.
  1. Pressure on the face: Too much pressure such as picking pimples and scrubbing the face can inflame the skin and cause the spread bacteria, increasing the pimples. Instead of sponging the face, use towels mildly instead. Also avoid touching your face as much as possible and stop trying to pop your pimples.
