UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon promised the global body’s support for Nigeria’s progress on Sunday, August 23. This statement was made during a Nigerian Governor’s Forum meeting in Abuja, within Ki-Moon’s two-day visit which commenced on Sunday. Mr. Ki-Moon commended the leaders for past implemented efforts, highlighting their roles as pivotal during what is a crucial moment in Nigeria. According to him, carrying the people along in the performance of their leadership duties is paramount for the governors, and something they must not ignore. “This is a crucial moment for Nigeria. And you have to take crucial steps to move the country forward. The United Nations is ready to help you. We have to work together to move the country forward,” he said as cited in a Punch News report. “You (the governors) understand the peoples’ challenges and you have the power to help the people on education, power, development, institution building, security and others.” Governors were encouraged to use sustainable development goals in developing their states. He also praised the success of the country’s previous elections stating that “Nigeria had done well”.   Source: Punch News
