Wine is a beverage made from fruits. It is used for socio-religious functions. For wine to be well appreciated, it should be consumed with wine glasses. Most of us have these glasses at home but we choose to thumb our noses at convention. So, we use tumblers, mugs, plastic or disposable cups to drink it.

Anyways, wine, wine appreciation and the Nigerian I don’t care lifestyle is not our topic of discussion today. Wine glass storage is. Don’t give me that look. Most of your wine glasses are chipped because you simply wash and shove them into the nearest cupboard without giving a thought to proper storage. So, pay attention and you just might learn a thing or two. You never know when you’ll need it. Having said that, you can store your wine glasses the following ways:

Store them in the cupboard rim up

We don’t want dust to settle in our wine glasses so we are in the habit of storing them bowl down. Unfortunately, this method of wine glass storage puts a lot of weight on the rim which is the most delicate part of the glass. This invariably increases the risk of chipping them. If you must store your wine glasses in the cupboard, please put them rim up. That way, the stem and the foot of the wine glass would take most of the weight.

Also, when you store wine glasses in cupboards, it’s important to leave some space between them. Doing this ensures you don’t accidentally clang one on the other when bringing them out.

Store them in the boxes they came in

You can actually save the boxes your crystals arrived in and store them therein when not in use. However, the glasses may absorb the smell of the box. If they are not properly cleaned, the smell could end up contaminating your wine.

Buy a rack

You already know that wine glasses are delicate. Owning a wine rack has several advantages. They are cheap and easy to set up. They separate the crystals naturally thereby reducing the risk of breakage. Also, they are made of wood and (or) metal and can support heavy glasses. The fact that they can be set up under cabinets make them space saving items too .

Since you’ve learnt how to store your wine glasses, my job here is done. The rest is up to you. I hope you’d put what you’ve learnt into practice.
