Comporting yourself should not stop at the beauty cosmetics you add on your face and body, it should also reflect in the way you walk, stand, sit, etc. Yes, we might not all be perfect in every area, but if there’s a need to balance an aspect of our body in a way that it ceases to be a problem, why not opt for it? And if you’re lacking in this area, then this is definitely for you. Here are 5 tips to get a better posture.

You might be wondering, how do I know if I have a good posture? Well, you can take this little test and find out! Find a mirror and stand in front of it, take a good look at your shoulders, do they appear squared or rounded? Is your chest lifted or dropped? If these are noticeable in your posture then try to adjust them by making sure your shoulders are squared, observe your chin and make sure it’s tucked in, also tuck in your stomach and look at the difference. Now how do you like that? This should be your ideal standing posture.

Another way to fix the negative posture is by doing the wall exercise. Find a wall and lay your back against it, in this position, your head, shoulders, heel and  behind should be found on the wall. Now tuck that tummy in, if it protrudes and cease that position for a few more seconds. Go back on it over and over again and you’d find yourself mastering the art of gaining a good posture.

For the third option, work on your spine as this provides the basis for your posture. Lie flat on your back, then support your head with a height of 6-9cm, using a flat pillow or anything you find comfortable, then bending your knees, keep your heels flat on the floor. Also, ensure your elbows are resting on the floor, then rest your hands on your lower hips. Do this for about 20 minutes until you feel your spine relaxing.

Practice the sitting technique. With your feet on the floor, and knees at the same level with your hips, ensure your chin is tucked in a little.. That way, the top of your head directly points to the ceiling and your back should be squared against the chair, maintain this position for a while and you’d see the result.

Lastly, go over these exercises and work on being better in your posture. Whether you like it or not, you are going to have to stand or sit at some point in a day. Now that you’ve read this, I better not catch you standing or sitting improperly. Represent yourself as the “upright” male or female that you are, by gaining a good posture.
