- Poor diet
The kind of food and drinks you consume greatly impact your productivity, especially your ability to focus. Volatile blood sugar levels is one of the impediments to focus. It has been noted that excessive sugar makes you feel energetic and hyperactive, which makes it difficult for your mind to stay calm. In that state, your attention span is shorter and you can hardly concentrate on one task at a time.
Although sugar is largely carbohydrate, there are some that are not as detrimental, like oats, wheat bread, pasta, brown rice and sweet potatoes.
Staying hungry for a long time also affects your ability to focus, so ensure you eat appropriately at regular times so you can bring in your A game to work.
- Poor Sleeping Habit
The human brain requires an amount of rest for recovery opportunities. Without adequately resting, your brain has a hard time functioning well when it ought to. Getting quality sleep means getting the required hours of deep sleep to enable your brain shut down completely and recalibrate in order to perform better.
Quality sleep is not necessarily about the hours, but your ability to sleep deeply. Some tips on sleeping deeply include:
Turn off all forms of distractions like your mobile phones or computer.
Stay off any thing that disallows you to sleep like caffeine, at least 5 hours before your time for bed.
You can make use of an eye mask to induce sleep.
Listen to binaural beats while you sleep.
Take your mind off worries.
- Lack of Physical Exercise
Physical exercise helps to improve your focus and productivity by training your function to respond faster to reflex, stay more relaxed and feel energized. It also helps you sleep better and calm your nerves.
Another area of exercise is mental exercise. You have to intentionally decide to use your mind continually otherwise, like every other muscle, it gets weakened and your ability to focus deteriorates. One way to exercise your mind is to engage in mental activities that stimulate creativity.
Engage in critical thinking as well, as it makes your mind focus on a thing for a period of time. You need to train your mind to think out of its comfort zone if you want to improve your focus level.
- Unnecessary Worrying
Most times, we worry about thing we have no control over and this makes our thoughts and emotions become exploited without any use. You have control over what you say and do, but not over what external factors or people will feel or think about you. Once you have a resolve about things you cannot change, you become more relaxed and start to channel your attention to things that are actually important.
Working on the things you have control over gives you an amount of confidence, because your efforts will yield results.
Once you take care of these habits that consistently impede your focus, you will feel lighter and more relaxed. You will also become a better version of yourself and assimilate things faster. Focus is one of the most important requirements for timeless success.
