Life has a way of keeping us busy with several tasks daily. With so much to do – ranging from work activities to personal errands – and so little time, it’s important that we are on top of our game when it comes to organisation. Hence, organisation and prioritisation are essential if we desire to live highly productive lives with stress at bay. The authors of the book ‘The Power of Focus’ provided a nifty solution nicknamed the 4D Solution that is guaranteed to handle our various responsibilities in an orderly fashion. I have personally found them very useful and I want to share these nuggets of wisdom with you. So when next a choice to do something comes up, select one of these options in response: 1. Dump it: You are not Superman or Superwoman, and so cannot be expected to take on every task that comes your way. Multitasking is good if you know the tips for effective multitasking, but you have to avoid drowning yourself with endless workload. Keep your daily workload light by saying NO to counterproductive activities, distractions and ensure you set personal boundaries. If it is a person who is requesting you perform a task and you are already busy, just firmly but politely turn it down and briefly explain your reason for doing so. 2. Delegate it: If you don’t have the time or the skills to perform an activity, why not pass it on to someone who does? Colleagues, friends or personal assistants are the right people to delegate such tasks to. 3. Delay it: Another option is to delay the performance of a certain task. This comes in handy when you want to personally do something but don’t have the time to do it properly. Rather than doing it half-heartedly and with limited attention, simply put it on hold and do it later. However, you have to be careful with this one, in order not to be dragged into the dangerous habit of procrastination. 4. Do it: Just get it done and over with. Important projects need your undivided attention, effort and time. Take a bold step and just do it! Once these projects have been successfully completed, compliment the people who helped you to achieve it and reward them accordingly. Do not forget to also reward yourself once in a while.   When you regularly apply this 4D solution to your daily life, your workload reduces and your professional life becomes more organised leading to increased productivity.     About the Writer: Ify Halim is a young Creative and a promoter of values through the force that is writing.  Follow her on twitter: @MissHalim
