The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) is set to revive Nigeria in collaboration with the federal government. They have invited the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) to eradicate corruption in partnership with its members. This was announced in a statement by its president, Femi Adesina in commemoration of the annual World Press Freedom Day on 3rd May.
The statement was tagged “Anti-corruption War Needs Journalism”
The statment claimed that “a free press will accelerate national development, help in the fight against corruption, and engender a better society.”
The NGE cited that, “as once observed by UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, “freedom of expression, independent media and universal access to knowledge will fortify our efforts to achieve lasting results for people and the planet. No government can achieve lasting results without independent media.”
The theme for this year’s World Press Freedom Day is “Let Journalism Thrive! Towards Better Reporting, General Equality, and Media Safety in the Digital Age.”
