On Monday, November 20, 2018, the news of Tosyn Bucknor’s death shook the entertainment industry and many who loved her for her phenomenal work on radio. Fondly called “Area Mama” by her listeners, Bucknor was an on-air personality on Inspiration FM who won several awards not just in her area of expertise, radio, but in other fields as well.
Who Was Tosyn Bucknor?
Tosyn Bucknor was born on August 15, 1981, to Mr. Segun Bucknor and Mrs. Sola Bucknor. Interestingly, she was born in a cab, a revelation she earlier made during an interview. She was also sister to Funke Bucknor, CEO of Zapphaire events. Her father, Segun Bucknor was a legendary Soul musician who reigned in the 70s.
Education
Bucknor attended Fountain Nursery and Primary School, Queens’ College, Yaba, and the University Of Lagos where she studied Law. After University, she attended Law School at the Nigerian Law School Lagos (LLB) and then went on to do her National Youth Service Corps in Port Harcourt, where she taught Literature-in-English and English at Archdeacon Crowther Memorial Girls’ School, Elelenwo.

Bucknor’s career on radio started off on Eko 89.7 Fm, after which she interned on Cool FM, hosting the Fun Hour Show on Saturdays. She later joined Top Radio as the only female hosting a morning show for several years before joining Inspiration FM.

Tosyn Bucknor got married to her long-time French boyfriend, Aurélien Boyer on 19th November 2015. The pair celebrated both their traditional and white wedding ceremonies in grand style and later proceeded to France to have an intimate destination wedding.

She was a blogger, actress and had written a good number of songs recorded on her album titled “Pop Rock Soul and Jara”. She also featured in popular television dramas like “Tinsel” and won many awards including the Nigerian Broadcasters Award, Future Awards, Exquisite Lady of The Year and many more.
Death
According to her sister and CEO of Zapphaire Events, Funke Bucknor, she died due to complications from sickle cell anemia, on the 20th of November 2018. The “Area Mama” will be surely missed.
