  Applications are currently open for the StoryMi Academy 2024 Documentary Film Fellowship. If you are a documentary filmmaker in Nigeria and want to receive technical and financial support to improve your craft, here’s an opportunity you may want to take advantage of.

This year’s StoryMi Academy Documentary Film Fellowship is organized in partnership with the French Embassy in Nigeria. It consists of a 6-month intensive training experience for emerging documentary filmmakers. About 10 fellows will be selected to take part in this program, based on their application materials and the mini-documentaries they submit.

Benefits

This program comes with the following benefits for fellows:
  • Attend the Sunny Side of the Doc film festival in France (in June), and gain insights from the best in the industry
  • Learn through physical and virtual workshops facilitated by Louise Moniau (Al Jazeera, New York Times, OpDocs), and Ike Nnaebue (No U-Turn, Arte Production)
  • Participate in individual coaching sessions, supported by mentors assigned to them
  • Four fellows will each receive a grant worth ₦1.5 million, enabling them to bring their documentary film to life
  • Their film will be screened on a film screening night slated for December 2024

Eligibility

This fellowship is open to persons who meet these criteria:
  • Be a Nigerian citizen residing in Nigeria
  • Aged between 20 and 35 years
  • Have previous experience in filmmaking, with at least 1 completed project (web, or non-web)
  • Have a compelling script ready for development and production

The Application Process

Persons who want to apply for this opportunity should do the following:
  • Download and complete the online application form linked HERE.
  • Submit a short documentary film, not longer than 5 minutes, which showcases your storytelling ability and technical competence
  • Submit your application form and mini-documentary HERE.
Applications will remain open until May 3, 2024. Participants will be announced on May 17.
