The 48 Hour Film Project, an international competition that has been taking place around the world for 15 years, this year makes its appearance in Lagos for the first time. Filmmakers from all over Nigeria will compete to see who can make the best short film in only 48 hours. The winning film will go up against films from around the world for the title “Best 48 Hour Film of 2014”.
Ike Nnaebue, Film Director and Screenwriter is the Lagos Producer of the event and is very excited at the numerous opportunities established and upcoming film makers in Nigeria will derive from the 48HFP Lagos. “48HFP Lagos is an international competition that we are bringing in to Nigeria and I am excited about it because the primary aim of the competition is to create an avenue where local film makers can interact with themselves and also interact with international film makers too. Although Nollywood is in a good place, the industry still needs exposure and this will happen when we cultivate active interaction between film makers in Nigeria and internationally which is what the 48HFP Lagos is set to do.”
He continued, “A month to the event’s weekend set for October, we will have film making events to sensitize the film making community about the 48HFP Lagos and why every film maker worth his/her career should participate,” he stated.
“People ask me how they can get into Nollywood, but getting into Nollywood is not just about saying you desire to be in the industry. You need to put your works out there and 48HFP Lagos gives you the opportunity to do so. Film makers will have the opportunity to make their film and present it anywhere. They will also have the opportunity to interact with other film makers in Nigeria and if your film wins to represent Lagos internationally, that is really cool because you have the opportunity to compete and interact with film makers internationally.”
