We all want a bright and attractive smile, although this can only be achieved by having a decent set of teeth. Even if they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, we can still become more beautiful to that beholder. To maintain a great smile, the first thing to consider is the teeth, it should be without stains or crookedness. Then the mouth is considered to ensure that it also is in perfect condition. Although the best option to consider is seeing a dentist for professional help, to have a better smile without having to see the doctor, here are some home remedies that can help you:
- Hydrogen peroxide and baking powder: One of the best ways to naturally whiten your teeth is to brush it with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking powder. Over time, it improves the colour of the teeth, lightening it a few shades. Although your teeth might not shine like a beacon, it will become decent enough. Be careful so as not to do this for more than four times a week.
- Olive or coconut oil: There is a technique called oil-pulling which helps to pull bacteria from your gums and teeth, making them healthier and smoother. The only thing to do is take a sip of olive or coconut oil in the morning, swish it around the mouth without swallowing for about 10 to 15 minutes and then spit it out. It will help to get rid of mouth ulcers and odour.
- Obey the brushing rule: There are many different rules to follow when brushing your teeth. The first one is to brush at least two times a day to get rid of the germs and dirt in your mouth. Another rule is to brush upwards and downwards instead of brushing the teeth sideways so as to get maximum benefit from the brush.
- Cut down on sweets and candies: Candies may taste delicious, but they are not so good for your oral health. They tend to stick to the gums hours after you think they are already out of your mouth. If you must eat sweets and candies, make sure you rinse your mouth with water afterwards.
- Use a straw: When drinking juices, fizzy drinks, tea or coffee it is better to use a straw so that the drink goes straight down to your throat and does not stain your teeth. Exposing your teeth to all these coloured drinks can have an adverse affect on the natural white colour of your teeth.
