Shola Ameobi Inducted Into Newcastle United Hall Of Fame

Former Super Eagles forward Shola Ameobi was on Tuesday inducted into the Newcastle United Foundation’s Hall of Fame. Ameobi was inducted alongside former England international, Les Ferdinand at the star-studded Charity’s annual dinner. Their inclusion into the Hall of Fame was made public at the celebration of Newcastle’s 125th year anniversary. The former Nigerian forward who is currently listed for England’s black-and-white Notts County modestly admitted that he was ‘embarrassed’ to be added to the hall of fame alongside some of the club’s most decorated and talented players. Ameobi at 36 years, spent 14 years at Newcastle United and scored 53 goals in 312 appearances. He also represented England at youth levels and was part of the Nigerian squad to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Both former strikers, Shola Ameobi and Les Ferdinand have devoted a lot to the club and are cherished for their dedication. They joined other United Hall of Famers like; Alan Shearer The club’s record goalscorer with 206goals. Peter Beardsley One of the greatest players the club ever had Frank Brennan Said to be the best centre-back the club has ever had. Hughie Gallagher Or ‘wee Hughie’ as he was known scored 143 goals in 174 games between 1925 and 1930. Steve Harper Joe Harvey He captained United after the second world war to two FA Cups in 1951 and 1952 Kevin Keegan After ending his playing career in 1983 to 1984, He became the club’s manager in 1992 and took them within an inch of the premier league table. Jimmy Lawrence Thought to be one of United’s all-time best goalies. Malcolm Macdonald Also known as ‘Supermac’ scored 138 goals in only 258 appearances and is also regarded one of the castle’s all-time best strikers. Bill McCracken Jackie Milburn The man Alan Shearer had to beat to claim the top goalscorer award. He scored 200 goals for the Toon. John Rutherford One of the clubs finest forwards, scoring 94 goals in 336 appearances over 12 seasons for the Toon. He was the club’s youngest ever scorer and debutant at the age of 17 when he first put on the black and white in 1902. Bobby Mitchell Sir Bobby Robson Late Pavel Srnicek He was one of Tyneside’s finest goalies for seven years, between 1991-1998, and a brief return in 2006. He passed away in December 2015 aged just 47.
