Smoothies are a hit in today’s world. Gym lovers, weight watchers, healthy living devotees are all going for it. Who would blame them? Smoothies are light, healthy and refreshing drinks. They are not just easy to prepare but they are best prepared at home. I say this because even though the popularity of this beverage has made it a big commercial article, we should know that some of these smoothie vendors do not use real fruits and some use artificial sweeteners. So, if you want to lose weight and you prefer buying your smoothies to making them, chances are, you won’t. That’s because you may be secretly packing calories and sugar instead of losing them. So, make it at home and if I’m to advice, keep it simple.

Today’s avocado cucumber smoothie will be prepared with just four main ingredients. If you look through my list of ingredients, you’d notice the absence of artificial sweeteners. Well, that’s because banana, which is one of the ingredients for today’s smoothie, will sweeten the drink. If you have not taken this beverage before, you don’t know what you are missing. Today’s recipe is simple enough. It just might be what you need to get started on your smoothie adventures. So, grab a chair and read along.

Ingredients

Avocado

Fresh or frozen bananas

Cucumber

Yoghurt

Ginger (to spice)

How to Prepare

Peel and dice the avocado, cucumber and frozen bananas.   Peel and dice the ginger.

Put all the ingredients in a blender. Please note that in making smoothies, the liquid: yoghurt and cucumber (because of it’s high water content) in this case, should be added before the other ingredients because it is the base.

Blend till smooth. Bear in mind that you can dictate the consistency of your smoothie by either adding more or less of the base. With this recipe, the yoghurt will make it creamy, and the cucumber will lighten the consistency. On the other hand, the more avocado and banana you add, the thicker it gets. So, take charge.

When you have a smooth blend and a satisfactory consistency, transfer the smoothie to a suitable container. Refrigerate and serve chilled.
