President Goodluck Jonathan is on a three-day state visit to Kenya, at the invitation of President Uhuru Kenyatta. This visit is expected to boost diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Kenya and expansion of cooperation in areas of trade, economic development, agriculture and tourism, according to a statement by the Presidency. President Jonathan is accompanied by his First Lady, Patience Jonathan, and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs – Olusegun Ashiru, Agriculture and Rural Development – Akinwunmi Adesina, Industry, Trade & Investment – Olusegun Aganga, Interior – Abba Moro, Petroleum Resources – Diezani Alison-Madueke, Culture, Tourism & National Orientation – Edem Duke, and a host of wealthy businessmen scheduled to participate in a business forum with leading Kenyan investors. Nigeria High Commissioner to Kenya, Akin Oyateru, commenting on relations between both countries, noted that, “Kenya just discovered oil, so we have a lot of comparative advantages there, which we can actually impact in them. We will assist in exchanging ideas, collaborate, and cooperate in the area of training and capacity building, “We could also help them in the area of redrafting their legislation to have a proper legislation in that sector.” President Jonathan’s visit to Kenya is the first state visit by a Nigerian leader in 25 years.
