  President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, accepted with immediate effect the resignation and retirement of Nigeria’s service chiefs. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina disclosed this information in an official statement on Tuesday which also confirmed the appointment of new service chiefs by the President.

With this development, the former Chief of Defense Staff,  General Abayomi Olonisakin has been replaced with Major-General Leo Irabor; the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai with Major-General Ibrahim Attahiru; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas with Rear Admiral A.Z Gambo; and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar with Air-Vice Marshal I.O Amao. The President thanked them for their service to the nation and charged the new service chiefs with the task of remaining loyal in the discharge of their duties to the nation.

The new Service Chiefs are Major-General Leo Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General I. Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral A. Z. Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff; and Air-Vice Marshal I.O Amao, Chief of Air Staff. The newly appointed service chiefs have their work cut out for them. It will a fair assessment to say that the outgone service chiefs, though they served their Fatherland, however, did a very poor job in the handling of the ever-increasing and ubiquitous insecurity in Nigeria.
